Have you ever heard “One man's trash is another man's treasure?” Think about how many plastic water bottles get used daily in the United States. How about in a year? Last year the United States used 50 billion plastic water bottles, however the US's recycling rate for plastic bottles is only 23%. That means 38 billion water bottles are wasted each year which equates to more than one billion dollars in wasted plastic each year.
Create recycled art inspired by the work of artist Dale Chihuly. Dale Chihuly is an American glass sculptor and entrepreneur. His works are considered to possess outstanding artistic merit in the field of blown glass, "moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture". We will each create three painted plastic bottles that will be spiral cut and assembled to create a large hanging sculpture - the more colorful and interesting the better. For your keepsake item, you will create flowers made from the bottom portion of the plastic bottles that you use for the larger project.
Adult supervision is required.
